At Kapsch, we are looking for a Pre-Sales Engineer to be responsible for leading the technical solution design, driving cost estimation, and drafting technical proposals within the Bid and Proposal team for the APAC Region. This role requires strong technical acumen and commercial focus to translate customer needs into viable, profitable Kapsch solutions.

Your Responsibilities:

As appropriate, the role will be responsible for the following indicative and non-exhaustive activities:

Solution Customisation & Technical Proposal Writing

  • Coordinates the compilation and customisation of the technical solution in collaboration with internal teams including Solution Consulting, Application Centres, Engineering and Delivery.

  • Drives Solution Win Themes and Strategy Assessment for all major bids, ensuring the proposed technical approach provides a competitive advantage.

  • Drafts the technical proposal content and solution description, ensuring the narrative is clear, compliant, and persuasive.

  • Assesses internal resource requirements for proposal efforts (e.g., Engineering, Delivery inputs) and coordinates their timely contribution.

  • Coordinates the development of Proposal Graphics and Visual Content to effectively communicate the technical solution.

  • Coordinates the technical solution handover to Delivery Teams post-award, ensuring seamless transfer of scope, budget, assumptions, and solution design.

Cost Estimation & Commercial Challenge

  • Leads all cost estimation works, preparing cost models, comparison tables, assumptions and early-stage cost plans to ensure financial planning rigour for all proposals and bids.

  • Responsible for collating and verifying the total cost of materials, equipment, and labour to gain all pricing estimations from various departments.

  • Challenge business and technical assumptions to reduce overall bid and proposal costs and drive alternative solutions where required to meet target pricing.

  • Prepare and present cost analysis findings to relevant internal stakeholders.

  • Owns and manages the Pricing Review & Sign-off Workflow, ensuring all estimates have appropriate sign-offs prior to submission.

  • Ensures bids and proposals submitted comply with applicable targets and / or requirements regarding margins, cash flow management, supply lead times and related matters.

  • Collaborates with Sales and Solution Consulting departments on developing and implementing competitive pricing strategies.

Process Maintenance and Quality

  • Maintains and localises the Global Costing Models, Comparison Sheets and develops new internal templates as required to stress-test pricing assumptions.

  • Ensure cost-effective bid preparation and continuously reduce offer creation costs by capturing initial bid cost estimates, tracking actual costs and reporting on performance.

  • Responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of pricing infrastructures in the APAC region and further enhances dynamic pricing tools to effectively respond to different solutions and pricing strategies.

  • Optimise and continually improve the quality of technical and commercial inputs through the application of corporate standards and ensure ‘lessons learned’ methodology is adopted into all current and future bids.

  • Provide reporting and documentation of pricing structures and serves as the point-of-contact for pricing inquiries from internal sales department.

You will also be required to undertake duties and tasks as outlined by the Head of Bid Management, APAC as required.

Your Profile

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a Pre-Sales, Solutions Architect, or Senior Systems Engineering role within the Engineering, Civil, Infrastructure, or Telecommunications market.

  • Demonstrable expertise in technical solution development, scoping, and cost estimation efforts within a formal bid process.

  • Required Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

  • Strong organisational and coordination skills effectively manage inputs from multiple teams across various time zones.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to create strong and productive relationships with staff and clients.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and numerical skills.

  • Experience in engineering and/or infrastructure industry.

  • Experience in pre-sales and technical proposal writing is highly desirable.

  • Advanced knowledge and extensive experience in Microsoft Office software use, especially Excel & Word.
